The Event

In collaboration with the Governments of Canada and Peru, and Trade Facilitation Office Canada (TFO), we are pleased to present the world premiere of four new “Ambassador Brands” and newly designed collections representing a cross section of Peru’s extraordinary cultural economy.

Monday, 30th November 2015,
MaRS Discovery District
West Atrium,
661 University Avenue, Toronto, ON

5:00-6:00: Panel discussion on the Peru Canada Initiative and the critical role of consumers and brands in Trade, Development and Diplomacy.

6:00-9:00: Reception and Debut of the Collection.

The event will feature:

  • The World Premiere of Four Artisan Ambassador Brands and newly designed Collections from Peru.
  • The launch of a new approach to Global Trade and Development: Ambassador Branding and Consumer Diplomacy.

BRAND[TRADE] Peru is a demonstration of consumer diplomacy; the consumer brand as a powerful force for global understanding. This is consumerism for people who love the world.

The Panel

The launch of BRANDTRADE Peru will be the debut of a new international trade and consumer model based on two enormous trends. The first is the extraordinary opening up of freer trade among emerging or developing countries globally and the opportunities this creates to leverage their vibrant but undervalued cultural economy. The second is the emergence of what we are calling Consumer Diplomacy; a movement that is based on the empowered consumer and the ability they now have to shape the world and the nature of Trade by what they buy and do.

Join us for a panel discussion from 5:00-6:00 to hear thought leaders from a variety of industries weigh in on what Consumer Diplomacy means for the future of trade, development, and retail.

What to expect?

The official launch of BRAND[TRADE] Peru will take place in the stunning West Atrium of the MaRS Discovery District. This event will showcase design samples of the entire collection, the Artisan Brand identities and stories, the key marketing elements for each Artisan Brand including Brand films and Lookbooks, a full-scale merchandising pop-up display, as well as an explanation of the BRAND[TRADE] Model. The VIP guest list will include Government Ministers and officials from Peru and Canada; Trade Commissioners and Ambassadors from upwards of 20 other priority countries; leading retailers; the design, advertising, digital, content and fashion communities; impact investors; leading company sponsor/partners; and the media.

In addition to the exclusive preview of the collection, the reception will feature authentic Peruvian cuisine and refreshments, and a short performance.

Our four ambassador brands

Artisans of Nuñoa – Puno District

Nuñoa is the world center for Suri wool, considered one of the finest fibers in the world. It is an Alpaca herding community with upwards of 100 active artisans.

Shipibo Artisans of the Amazon

Conibos indigenous communities in the Pucallpa region of the Amazon Basin. Their uniquely patterned, hand embroidered textiles are inspired by long-standing and strong tribal identities and traditions.

Toquilla weavers of Catacaos/Piura

Toquilla weaving has been a tradition of the northern region of Peru since prehispanic times. Today there are more than 4000 active artisan women in the area.

Cusco Highland Communities

The textile tradition in the highlands of Peru is deeply rooted and pre-Hispanic, using waist looms and natural dyes and fibers. Each remote community surrounding Cusco has its own style represented by their traditional color palette and decorative patterns.
